THRILL OF OPPORTUNITY (COMING SOON) WE ARE SEEKING FUNDING TO BEGIN THIS PROGRAM.

A Career Exploratory Workshop/Program that is on a mission to expose children, teens and students in inner city communities and schools to elusive career opportunities through participation in dynamic & cross cultural experiences. We want to help them connect the dots between who they are and the possibilities that exist.

The Mayberry Foundation is looking to host interactive career days at schools, rec centers, church’s and other events spaces.  Our vision is to bring participants face to face with the makers & creators of our society. Through a variety of workshops and demonstrations, students will have the opportunity to test drive traditional and non traditional career opportunities. Through experience based learning, they will be given the chance to peek at careers & assess if it is a space that they can see themselves devoting time, energy and effort to.

• EXPOSURE: Far too often children are led to believe that in order to be successful they must fit into a box. The Thrill of Opportunity aims to teach participants that these societal walls are non-existent. Our cross cultural events and non traditional approach will help students align their career goals with their natural strengths and abilities. We want to connect young people to their future  

• CONNECTION: The jobs we have right now may not be jobs we’re really thinking about in the future. We aim to provide a space for Cincinnati’s innovative businesses to introduce themselves to future employees, contractors, interns and partners. Meaningful connections with adults are very important for young people and studies have shown that just one conversation can make a big difference. Developing key skills like being able to work in groups, knowing how to communicate confidently with adults and thinking creatively and critically are reinforced by real experiences. Those skills help young people now and long-term.

• EMPOWERMENT: We want students to dive deep into themselves and their personal passions. The data has shown that early career exploration and exposure can head off a lot of career missteps saving both time and money. Parents are sometimes guilty of seizing on a career path for their children and encouraging it to the exclusion of exploring other options. Their futures truly belong to them. Our goal is to help participants take ownership of that. Let’s face it, kids don’t know what they want. And how would they? There is a whole list of things out there they don’t even realize exists. The Thrill of Opportunity is grounding them in the reality of work. We know that the road to success is not a straight line. It can be very encouraging for young people to have a realistic idea of the demands and commitment that their career interest entails. Together we can help minimize the gap and change the future for youth in the inner city. There’s a whole wide world open to young people, lets help them figure out their path.
