The Mayberry Foundation goal is to help build resilient self-sustaining communities. The concept of Phase 1.1 is designed to help empower, promote and bring excitement to established community and school gardening programs through events hosted by The Mayberry Foundation at the garden itself. We will be providing DJ, GAMES, FRESH FOOD, GUEST SPEAKERS TO SPEAK ABOUT GARDENING AND MENTAL HEALTH.
REMEMBER - The Mayberry Foundation sole mission is “striving to improve the quality of human life and effect change by tackling mental health, poverty and hunger” ONE EVENT AT A TIME!
The goal for these events are to create a positive and productive environment for participants to grow as individuals as they “learn by doing.” These garden events will allow all participants to learn across a wide spectrum of disciplines while building self esteem, new skill sets and much more. WE AIM TO MAKE GARDENING FUN while bring awareness to diabetes, high blood pressure and other health problems ALL while tackling food insecurity.
TOGETHER. Our partnership will also provide a supportive space that promotes and tackles Mental Health.
The Growing Together Initiative events will help bring awareness and excitement that promotes the benefits of established curriculum. These events will be hands on and interactive while used as an educational purpose which will allow schools to leverage the gardening event as a means to reinforce and expand upon the curriculum taught within the classroom.
By participating in gardening people experience a sense of accomplishment which builds self esteem. Also by communicating and consciously cooperating with others to reach a common goal, youth develop skills to communicate and listen.
By creating safe spaces where people work together they have a responsibility and a shared interest that connects them with others. A garden builds a smallers, community with a connection to the larger community as a reliable food source.
By participating in garden programs students get an opportunity to experience and develop valuable work skills for a trade in horticulture. These skills include, but aren't limited to, time management, organization, accountability, responsibility, discipline, and horticulture.
By teaching and empowering people, especially youth, to grow their own food, we provide them with the means to be the solution to problems like living in food deserts and deteriorating vacant areas. We are working towards a common mission to Grow for the Greater Good.
Gardening helps people battling depression in so many ways. The exercise from gardening helps reduce symptoms of depression Being outdoors provides sun and vitamin D, which creates serotonin (happy hormone).
Creating spaces where people can focus their attention on positive tasks and the details of gardening can reduce anxious thoughts and feelings. It supports people in their efforts to feel better in the moment, more peaceful, content and stress free.
Gardening is beneficial to the mind as much as the body. It gives people a positive outlook on life because it keeps the mind busy. People can allow their minds to be in a quieter, more relaxed state. Helping to relieve symptoms of mental health disorders.
